Rich's  journey to founding Naperville Music began in his teenage years, where he honed his musical talents as a gigging musician throughout the vibrant 1970s. Inspired by his love for music and a desire to share it with others, Rich envisioned a space that would not only sell instruments but also offer music lessons, instrument rentals, and repair services to the community and surrounding school districts.

 

With humble beginnings, Naperville Music started as a small shop with just a handful of instruments and services. However, under Rich's leadership and vision, the business steadily grew, earning a reputation for quality and service within the community.

 

Recognizing the need for expansion, Rich sought a partner to help manage the growing enterprise. In Mark Gardner, a dedicated employee with a shared passion for music, Rich found the ideal collaborator. Together, they navigated the challenges of entrepreneurship, fostering strong ties with their customers and establishing Naperville Music as a trusted institution.

 

Despite a temporary relocation to Florida, where Rich opened another music store called Rock Warehouse, Naperville Music continued to thrive under Mark's stewardship. Rich's return a decade later marked a new chapter in the business's history, as they spearheaded efforts to expand Naperville Music's physical footprint.

 

In a strategic move, Rich and Mark acquired the Twin Centers Shopping Center, the very location where Naperville Music had its humble beginnings. This acquisition allowed for the addition of more space, ensuring that Naperville Music could meet the growing demands of its clientele for years to come.

 

As Rich and Mark prepare to retire, the future of Naperville Music rests in the hands of the next generation. Russ Karnuth, Rich's son, and his partner Nate, both veterans of the shop with over 15 years of experience, are poised to carry on the legacy of Naperville Music.
